In contrast to the horrific destruction caused by the Los Angeles wildfires in early January, the weeks following revealed something extraordinary - an outpouring of generosity, service and love from the people of this city. I began visiting evacuation centers and volunteer sites, witnessing firsthand how strangers became family.
